SBA is committed to building a high-performing, 21st century workforce that possesses the following core attributes: cultural astuteness, technological proficiency, articulate, strong writing capabilities, superior conflict resolution skills, and exceptional presentation skills.

SBA has been a leader in small business development for more than 60 years. In an increasingly globalized economy, we tackle challenges confronted by the small business community across geographic boundaries. Although times have changed since SBA was founded in 1953, the agency’s mission—to promote the growth of small business—has not. Today, SBA is more vital than ever. We work in collaboration with partner organizations using cutting-edge technologies and well-tested best practices to multiply our impact on small businesses.

America’s 30 million small businesses are the engine of job creation and economic growth in this country, creating nearly two out of every three new jobs in the United States and employing over half the nation’s workforce. SBA ensures that these businesses have the tools and resources required to start and expand their operations, create jobs that support a growing economy, and strengthen America’s middle class.

SBA and entrepreneurs drive American competitiveness and help grow the economy. Picture yourself at SBA.

Contracting for SBA

Small businesses can help the federal government with disaster relief and recovery.

Disasters need a quick response. Your small business can contract with the federal government to help.

The government searches the Disaster Response Registry to find companies that can help. This is part of the System for Award Management (SAM). Contractors on this registry can help clean up debris, deliver supplies and services, or rebuild.

To be added:

  1. Register your business with SAM.
  2. During registration, indicate you want to join the Disaster Response Registry.
  3. Fill out the Disaster Response Information page in the Assertions module.

SAM registration takes about two or three days. Once active, you’ll be added to the registry.

If your business is local to a major disaster or emergency declaration, you may get preference when bidding.

FEMA requires potential vendors to fill out the Industry Liaison Program (ILP) Vendor Profile form. Submit it by email to fema-industry@fema.dhs.gov.

Federal agencies will post solicitations for disaster-related contracts on SAM. To find them:

  • Use your North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code
  • Search keywords such as “hurricane” or “disaster”

You can also search for state and local opportunities. FEMA has state contact information listed on its site.

Contact the Federal Service Desk for help with SAM registration.

If you’re located in the United States and its outlying areas, your local APEX Accelerator can help with government contracting.

You can also contact your local SBA district office
